Project History

Petrolec Ltd can manage your next project in a highly efficient manner, to demonstrate the effectiveness of our project work please find below examples of Petrolec Ltd projects performed for operators in the North Sea.

11kV Generator Rotor Changeout

Petrolec Ltd recently managed the changeout of a rotor assembly on a North Sea installation 11kV, 11.2MW alternator. This scope was completed from initial fault event to machine startup in 6 weeks. What makes this remarkable is the level of detail that went into the planning of the changeout. The project was compounded by the fact that the OEM was based in Ohio, USA and this meant that meetings had to be conducted overseas to fully develop the planning preparations. The rotor plan then had to be integrated into the asset 90 day plan and careful management of platform and vendor resource was required. The rotor changeout was completed in an incident free manner, within budget and ahead of projected timescale.

11kV Diesel Generator Overhaul

Petrolec Ltd managed a refurbishment programme of 5 x 11kV, 6.42MW ABB diesel driven generators onboard a North Sea FPSO. This involves stripdown and cleaning of the machine internals, replacement of component parts, rebuild, testing and commissioning. Once again a very detailed project plan and commissioning procedure was developed and ensured that all 5 machines were overhauled in an incident free manner and within timescale & budget.

Turnaround Electrical Planning

A North Sea operator identified a requirement to perform intrusive switchboard maintenance (busbar inspections) on nineteen switchboards across the field. This was a major undertaking bearing in mind the limited timescale to Turnaround commencement. Petrolec Ltd was requested to co-ordinate these activities and become the focal point for the complete electrical content of the Turnaround. Intensive preparation work commenced, with many weeks spent offshore reviewing the equipment/drawings, maintenance history, PM scheduling and discussing the activities with the Senior Authorised Electrical personnel on the platform. An electrical plan was developed which networked with the full asset TAR plan, and a High Level document summarising the electrical activities was presented to asset management for awareness. An Petrolec Ltd representative mobilised offshore during the TAR to act as offshore focal point, this coordination role provided valuable assistance to the platform electrical technicians and management team. On completion of the TAR a comprehensive report was submitted to the operator Electrical Technical Authority and a close out meeting was held onshore with all parties involved in the planning and execution of the work. The electrical work was heralded as a great success by the operator and a model to be followed for all future electrical maintenance.
